Passover verses Easter which one is right in God's sight?
This study will be broken up into two parts the first part will deal with Passover and how Jesus fulfilled this feast and the second part will be looking at Easter and how this replaced Passover through the Gentile Church Fathers, Constantine and others.
Part One Passover and Jesus as the Passover Lamb
I will break this part down into questions which I will answer.
Q1 Did God or man orchestrate the Feasts?
God was the One who gave the Israelites the Feast of Passover for it was the final plague that God sent upon Eygpt which was the death of the first born of beast and man.
It was at the death of the first born both of man and beast of Egypt that caused the Egyptians to drive the Israelites out of Egypt.
God gave instructions to the Israelites of what they were to do to protect their families from the Angel of death. They had to kill a lamb or goat a year old to put its blood on the lintels of the doors to their homes Exodus 12.
God did give the Israelites this Feast and other feasts in more detail in Leviticus 23. I will put in the verses concerning the Passover, unleavened bread, first fruits feasts. The other feasts are that of Pentecost, the Autumn Feasts of Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Tabernacles.
I am only focusing on the feast of Passover, unleavened bread and first fruits as this is connected to Jesus's death, and resurrection to show how these feasts are connected to Him.
Leviticus 23:1-14
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.
4 These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover.
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
9 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the Lord.
13 And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.
14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
As you can see from the verses above that these feasts are God's Feasts and Sabbaths and the Israelites are to observe them even coming up to the place where God puts His name upon in the promised land three times a year.
This was a commandment from God, Jerusalem being the final place where He put His name upon and where two temples once stood.
Q 2 Did Jesus keep this Feast as a child and into adult years?
Yes Jesus did keep all of the Jewish feasts from His youth up and into His adult years.
As they are connected to Him through His heritage as a Jew descended from the line of David and through the line of Judah back to the Patriarchs of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Luke 2:41-51
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
God established the Feasts for the Israelites to observe and Jesus set the example by observing them faithfully.
He came to fulfill the Law not to destroy it
Matthew 5:17-18
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Q3 How did Jesus fulfil these feasts?
I will give a brief summary of how Jesus fulfilled the Passover and feast of unleavened bread and first fruits. Then I will give a more detailed explanation giving questions then answering them.
So through His death on the cross as the Passover Lamb of God.
John 1:29, 35-36
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
Jesus at His first coming totally fulfilled the Passover and the Feast of unleavened bread by being the bread of life who is without sin and rising again on the day of first fruits.
He will also will fulfil the other HIgh Holy days of trumpets, Day of Atonement and Tabernacles through His second appearing as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to rule on the earth from Mt Zion (Jerusalem).
The Day of Pentecost has been fulfilled by His sending the Holy Spirit upon His apostles and disciples as they waited in the Upper Room in Jerusalem on that day.
For the purpose of this study I will be only focusing on how Jesus fulfillled the Feast of Passover, unleavened bread and first fruits through His death and ressurection and why we should observe these days for they are connected to Him.
Q4 How was Jesus tested like the Passover lamb of Exodus 12?
To answer this question I will break it down under different headings to show how Jesus was tested for four days while he taught in the temple before He went to the cross.
1. Setting the scene of His coming death
To set the scene. Jesus comes to Jerusalem as a lowly humble king in peace riding on a colt the foal of a donkey. Most kings who want to conquer and show their might and power come in war and ride on great war horses.
Jesus didn't do this He came in peaceful humility as He was getting ready to go to the cross.
I will give the scriptures relating to His entering into Jerusalem and His cleansing of the temple.
It was necessary for Jesus to cleanse His Father's house the temple so that it could be a fit house for Him to be obeserved/ watched/ tested in for four days before He went to the cross.
This event occured on what the church calls Palm Sunday.
It occured 5 days before he went to the cross.
The first 12 verses in John 12 speaks about the supper that was given in honor of Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead and how Jesus was anointed by Mary for His burial.
John 12:1-19
1Then Jesus six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
The next day mentioned in verse 12 would have been the fifth day before Passover.
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
As this is a long passage I will break it down into bite sized pieces.
The first part is to do with Jesus riding into Jerusalem in peace, the cleansing of the temple. This is similar to John's account in John 12 which was the fifth day before Passover.
Matthew 21:1-17
1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
2. The four day watching and testing of Jesus begins in the temple by the elders, religious leaders and Herodians
Like the lamb in Exodus 12 was taken into the home and watched / tested for four days to see if any blemish will appear on the animal before it is sacrificed.
Just like the other Passover lambs were taken into homes to be tested. So too Jesus was in the House (temple) of God His Father for four days for the nation of israel and the world. He was being tested like the Passover lambs of His day to see if any blemish be found in Him. Before He went to the cross, as the Passover Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
When Jesus came to the temple to begin His testing this would have been around the of 10 Nissan when the people of Israel were to take a kid or lamb into their homes for four days to observe it to see if there would develope a blemish upon it before it will be sacrificed on 14 Nissan as the Passover lamb or kid.
Jesus was teaching daily in this house being tested by the religious leaders, the elders and Herodians a political faction under King Herod. He was also tested by the Sanhedrian and Pontius Pilate on the day of Passover itself.
A side note.
The temple was where the people of Israel came up to worship God in the temple where God dwelt in the midst of His people. The temple was often referred to as the House meaning the House of God.
When the Pharisees were concerned about the house being taken from them by the Romans in John 11:46-48, the house or place they were referring to was the temple. Also in Matthew 23:37-39 when Jesus said the House of Israel will be left desolute He was referring to the temple.
Please take note how Jesus responds to the testing of His character by those who had evil in their hearts towards Him.

Matthew 21:18a, 23-46
18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city,
23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:
34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
Further testing by the religious leaders and Herodians.
Matthew 22:15-46
15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
44 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
Mark 11:27-28
27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
Luke 20:19-20
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
3. Jesus being tested by the Sanhedrin before being taken to Pilate
On morning of the day which was the 14th Nissan, He was brought before the Sanhedrin and Pontius Pilate and even then He proved Himself blameless for they could find no flaw, blemish or sin in Him.
Here I will include the scriptures from when Jesus stood before the Sanhedrin to show how they used or tried to use false witnesses against Him and failed.
They instead brought a trumped up charge of blasphemy but when they handed Him over to Pilate they tried to make out that He was causing sedition a rebellion against Rome. For this Pilate could find nothing on that charge against Him and wanted to let Him go.
The Religious leaders wanted Jesus to be crucified on the cross not to be stoned which they could have done for blaspheny. They didn't want just to have Him stoned they wanted Him to be crucified to be destroyed for cursed is every man that Hangs on a tree.
Deuteronomy 21:22-23
22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:
23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
Galatians 3:13
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Little realizing by doing this they were bringing a curse upon themselves in rejecting Him thereby bringing God's righteous wrath down upon them. If they confessed their sin of rejection of Him they would have been forgiven.
So it still stands today the descendants of these leaders must today call for the Lord in true repentence of what they had done and this will only happen at the end of the age when the armies once more surround and invade Jerusalem.
4. False witnesses brought against Jesus and no blemish was found in Him.
They tried to have witnesses testify against Him but their testimony could not stand, for they were unreliable witnesses. Even when they asked Him a question about being the Son of God He answered truthfully that He was and that He will come in the clouds of Glory. For this they accused Him of blasphemy and on that charge they wanted to put Him to death.
They were the guilty ones not Jesus who was not blaspheming but was speaking truth. They couldn't even find witnesses to testify against Him as their testimony couldn't stand because they couldn't agree in what they said against Jesus.
Matthew 26:59-66
59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
Mark 14:55-64
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
John 18:19-24
19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
5. On the Day of Passover He was tested by Pontius Pilate at the judgment seat.
Neither could Pilate find any fault in Him when He was brought before Pilate to be judged.
This is important because it shows even when He was being judged by Pilate there was no blemish in Him.
So He went to the cross as the pure spotless Lamb of God who gave up His life His soul for the world. For the life is in the blood Leviticus 17:10-14 and Jesus poured out His soul in His life blood upon the cross.
Please note how important the blood is for atonement that is why I am including the following verses from Leviticus. Jesus literally gave His life / soul through His poured out life blood for our lives / souls. He exchanged His sinless life for our sinfilled lives so that we can live for eternity with Him if we accept His atoning sacrifice on the tree.
Leviticus 17:10-14
10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
Matthew 27:1-2, 11-26 see also Mark 14:1-2 and Mark 15:1-15
1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
When Pilate states in John 18:35 that the nation had rejected Jesus he didn't realize that he was stating a prophetic fact. This is seen in Isaiah 49 where it states that the suffering servant is despised by his own nation.
Isaiah 49:7
7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
John 18:28-40
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
John 19:1-17
1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
6. Jesus being tested by Herod and Pilate
Luke 25:1-25
1 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
Q5 How did the death of Jesus correlate with the Feast of Unleavened Bread and first fruits?
Jesus death correlated with these two keys feasts in the following ways:
(5a) Unleavened Bread
The next day after the death of Jesus was a Sabbath Day but it was not the weekly Sabbath which is on the Saturday. It was a High Sabbath Day which is the first day of the Feast of Unleavened bread.
That is why the day before this first High Sabbath Day of the Feast of unleavened bread, was called the Preparation day (this Preparation Day was also the day of Passover). This was why the Jews wanted no one to be on the cross and they wanted them killed so that they could be taken down before that day began.
To understand this better Jesus died on the 14 Nissan Passover which was also the Preparation Day before the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Please note that the Passover itself is not a High Sabbath day that is observed outside of the regular weekly Sabbath day.
Thereby the day of the beginning of the first day of unleavend bread was to be a High Sabbath Day along with the final day of this Feast the seventh day and on both these days no work was to be done. This is a separate Sabbath day from the regular weekly Sabbath days the Israelites observed.
In other words the feast of unleavened bread has two High Sabbaths on which there is to be no work. The first High Sabbath was to be on the 15 of Nissan and the seventh day the last day of the Feast which would be the 22 Nissan.
Sot the day after Jesus's crucifixian was to be a High Sabbath the first day of the Feast of Unleavened bread. This was not an ordinary Sabbath day ie the seventh day of the week. This day would have been on the fifth day of the week on which Jesus died ie what we would call Thursday.
Then Friday would have been the sixth day before the normal Sabbath ie the seventh day of the week. After resting and doing no work on the High Sabbath day the first day of unleavened bread. The women would have bought anointing oils to anoint Jesus on the day before the regular Sabbath, then they would have rested on the Sabbath Day the weekly Sabbath Day.
After the end of the Sabbath Day they came on the first day of the week to the tomb to annoint Jesus only to find the tomb empty.
I have included the verses from Leviticus 23 to remind you of the feast of unleavened bread when it occurs and how there are two Sabbath days included in this feast that no work is to be done.
Jesus was crucified on the 14 Nissan as the Lord's Passover Lamb and He is now in the tomb on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened bread the 15 Nissan which is a High Sabbath Day.
Please note in John 19:31 it states that this Sabbath Day was to be a High day this is what it is referring to the first day of the Feast of unleavened bread on the 15 Nissan, it is not referring to the regular weekly Sabbath day.
Leviticus 23:4-8
4 These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover.
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
John 19:28-37
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
Also that is why Joseph came to collect the body of Jesus and why they had to bury him in haste, before the evening of the High Sabbath day as the Hebrew day begins in the evening.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Mark 15:42-47
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
John 19:38-42
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
The unleavened bread also represents purity, sinlessness as leaven in scripture represents sin.

As I have shown in the scriptures about how Jesus was tested for four days before He went to the cross. We can see how there was no leaven or sin blemish in Him. That He was indeed the pure sinless Lamb of God.
He indeed is the unleavened bread from heaven.
Jesus also gave great detail in John 6 on how He is the true bread from heaven and people can only live if they eat His flesh and drink His blood.
He was referring to His death on the cross and how we do indeed eat His flesh and drink His blood in a spiritual sense when we take communion.
John 6:31-59
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

Jesus is that pure bread which also represents the word of God or His Law the Torah.
Deuteronomy 8:3
3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
John 1:1-4
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
It must also be noted that none of the Passover Lamb was to be taken out of the house nor was a bone to be broken of the Passover Lamb.
He was to be striped and pierced for our transgressions.
Exodus 12:41-51
41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.
42 It is a night to be much observed unto the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
43 And the Lord said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
44 But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.
45 A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof.
46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.
47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
John 19:31-37

(5b) Jesus our unleavened bread was striped and pierced for our sins
Jesus was also striped and pierced for us and the Jews eat Matzah bread during Passover, this is unleavened bread and it is striped and pierced.

Jesus on the cross was pierced and He was whipped for our transgressions.
The following verses from 2 Samuel 7 are prophetically speaking of Jesus for He will be the seed of woman who comes from David's son Nathan see Luke chapter 3 geneology of Jesus this is the line of Mary.
He will be chastened with the rod of men and the stripes of the children of men for the iniquity of Israel and the nations. God will establish His Son's throne and kingdom forever.
2 Samuel 7:12-17
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

Psalm 22:1, 6-21

Q6 What is the significance of the day of First fruits and how does this relate to the death and resurrection of Jesus?
I will include here the verses from Leviticus 23 about the first fruits this offering of the first fruits occurs on the third day of the Feast of Unleavened bread.
Leviticus 23:9-14
9 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the Lord.
13 And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.
14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Jesus also likens Himself to a grain of wheat that must fall into the ground to bear much fruit.
John 12:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
So when He rose again He rose again on the day of first fruits this was when the High Priest brough an omer of the first of the harvest the first fruit of either the wheat or barley harvest before the Lord in the temple.

"From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the Lord." (Leviticus 23:15–16)
The second day of Passover (the Feast of Unleavened Bread) begins the barley harvest, a time of reaping the produce that had been sown over the winter.
On the first day of the barley harvest, the first sheaf of barley (an omer or unit of measure) was presented in the sanctuary.
Every feast in the Torah points to Yeshua as the coming Messiah (Mashiach), and so does this feast.
Yeshua rose from the grave on the day of Waving the First fruits, the first day of celebrating a new harvest and counting the Omer.
He is the first fruits of all those who will also be raised up into new life (1 Corinthians 15:20, 23).
(6a) Jesus seeing the fruit of His labour when He rose from the grave and taking that fruit to Heaven.
Even in Isaiah 53 it speaks about the Messiah seeing the fruit of His labour.
Isaiah 53:8-12
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Jesus when He ascended to Heaven I believe He took with Him those who rose from the graves when He died but came out of them when He rose from the dead on the third day.
Matthew 27:46-53
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
When He ascended to heaven it said He disappeared into the clouds it could be literal clouds but it could also mean He took the first fruits of His labour to heaven to present to His father. Those that He showed Himslef to in Paradise to show that He is the One they were waiting for including the thief on the cross.
Acts 1:9-11
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
We do have a cloud of witnesses surrounding us.
Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Paul in the epistles speaks of the feast of Passover, the feast of unleavened bread and Jesus being the first fruits.
1 Corinthians 5:7-8
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
1 Corinthians 20-23
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
Colossians 1:12-23
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Q7 What day did Jesus really die on?
The day Jesus died on was the 14 of Nissan it is given in the scriptures in Exodus the day they were to offer up the Lamb for the Passover.
Exodus 12:1 - 6
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
Leviticus 23:1-8
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.
4 These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover.
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
Jesus ate the Passover Seder meal that is the correct name for what the church calls the last supper. He ate this meal on the night before the Passover so that He could die on the cross on the day of Passover itself.
He sent His disciples to prepare for the Feast that is what He is referring to the Feast of Passover. The day before the 14 Nissan would be the day of Preparation for Passover.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread which includes the Day of Passover is an 8 day Feast beginning with Passover the next day after Passover is the first day of unleavened bread it was to be a Sabbath day no one is to do any work on that day as is written in the verses from Leviticus 23:6-7 above.
There were two Sabbaths between the death of Jesus and His resurrection. One being the Sabbath of the First day of the Feast of Unleavened bread and the other Sabbath was the regular weekly Sabbath.
Matthew 26:1-5, KJV
1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the Passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

John 13:1
1 Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
This was the night He ate the final Passover meal with His disciples which He told them He longed to eat this final Passover meal with them.
Luke 22:14-16
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Jesus was possibly at the judgment hall of Pilate from around 6 am the start of the new Roman day before He was led away to be crucified.
He endured during this time a tirade of accusation against Him from the religious leaders the baying for His blood by the rabble that was stirred up against Him by the religious leaders, being taken to see Herod being mocked by him and his soldiers then sent back to Pilate.
Being questioned by Pilate who endeavoured to set Him free only to have a near riot on his hands due to the Pharisees stirring up the mob.
He was then given over to the Roman cohort to be disciplined through whipping, being mocked by the Roman guard and finally He was taken out of the city to be crucified.
The mockery didn't stop even on the cross He endured the cruel jibs by those passing by on the way into Jerusalem, He was mocked by the two thieves who were being crucified on either side of Him, although one did have a change of heart and repented. The soldiers were mocking Him along with the scribes and Pharisees.
All this cruelty no wonder His heart broke within Him from this but He endured and took this bitter cup of judgement to the bitter end. So that we who are sinners and rightly deserved this judgment should go free through faith in the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world through the altar of the cross on the hill outside the walls of Jerusalem Hebrews 13:9-13.
Please note that in the Roman time the third hour is 9 am and the ninth hour is equivalent to 3 pm our time. As they went on a twelve hour clock by day and night.
Part way through His six hour ordeal on the cross the sun went dark at the sixth hour which equals midday by our time.
So Jesus hung on the cross from 9 am until 3 pm when He gave up His Spirit into the hands of His Father and saying it is Finished.
He went to the cross and He died at 3 pm when the last Passover lamb was offered up on the altar. For the sun was darkened from noon to 3pm or as the bible says it was dark from the sixth hour until the ninth hour. Mark 14:33, Luke 23:44-46.

25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
Matthew 27:31-51
31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

If the next day was a normal Sabbath the Jews would have had the last lamb killed at 2pm instead of 3pm.

The sacrificial animal, which was either a lamb or goat, had to be a male, one year old, and without blemish. Each family or society offered one animal together, which did not require the semikah (laying on of hands), although it was obligatory to determine who were to take part in the sacrifice that the slaughtering might take place with the proper intentions. Only those who were circumcised and clean before the Law might participate, and they were forbidden to have leavened food in their possession during the act of slaughtering the Passover lamb. The animal was slain on the eve of the Passover, on the afternoon of the 14th of Nisan,[1] after the Tamid sacrifice had been slaughtered, i.e., at three o'clock, or, in case the eve of the Passover fell on Friday, at two.[2]
The slaughtering took place in the courtyard of the Temple at Jerusalem
So the day that Jesus died was a normal day hence His dying at 3pm.

It must be noted that the third day on which He rose again would be a Sunday or the First Day of the week after the seventh day the Sabbath Day.
According to Leviticus 23:9-11 the offering of the first fruits must take place on the day after the sabbath the regular sabbath day. So that would be the First day of the week ie Sunday.

Q8 How long was Jesus in the grave and on what day did He rise again on?
Jesus rose on the third day which will be either at the end of the Sabbath Day the seventh day as it was turning towards the beginning of the week the first day of the week.
We end up misunderstanding the significance of the number of Sabbaths or significance of them in relation to the Passover and Feast of unleavened bread.
People get confused by the mention of the number of Sabbaths that are given in the gospels at the time of Jesus's death and resurrection, because the people who translated the bible didn't understand the Jewish culture being from other cultures.
So the truth of how Jesus fulfilled the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened bread and first fruits is lost in the translation literally.
Why do I say this?
I say this because when you add up the number of hours of Jesus being in the grave after His death supposedly on Good Friday to Easter Sunday. The hours only add up to 36 hours or only 1 and half days not 72 hours or 3 days.
This is making out Jesus to be a liar or God cannot count. When God says something He means it. If He says something is going to happen it will happen exactly as He has spoken or had it written down by the Prophets.
God is not a man that should lie.
Numbers 23:19
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Jesus was literally 72 hours or 3 full days in the grave.
If you take the time of His death at 3 pm on the Passover which would be before the evening of the day of Preparation. So from say Wed evening to Thursday evening is one day Thursday evening to Friday evening is two days and Friday evening to Saturday evening as it was turning towards the first day of the week which is three days.
Or put it another way 14 Nissan to 15 Nissan one day 15 Nissan to 16 Nissan is two days and 16 Nissan to 17 Nissan is 3 days.
Jesus Himself said that He will be in the grave for three days and nights and this is backed up by the scriptures.
Jesus Himself even said to the Pharisees who were asking Him for a sign was that the only sign that He will give them was the sign of Jonah when Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and nights.
Jonah 1:17
17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Matthew 12:38-40
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
Jesus when preparing His disciples for His coming death told them plainly that He will rise again on the third day which would be in corrilation with the first fruits of the Feast of unleavened bread.
Matthew 17:22-23
22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
Mark 10:32-34
32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Luke 18:31-34
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Even the angels told the women who came to the tomb that Jesus was risen and had gone ahead of them to Galiliee as He had told them.
The women would have come to the tomb on the day of First fruits the first day of the week after the Sabbath.
Luke 24:1-9
1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
The two disciples going to Emmaus speaking to Jesus about the events that took place.
Luke 24:13-21
13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Jesus appearing to His disciples in Jerusalem possibly the upper room where they had the Passover seder meal with Jesus.
Luke 24:36-48
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Even out of the mouth of His enemies the Pharisees went to Pilate to have a guard at the tomb to watch it for three days.
Also note they came to Pilate on the 15 Nissan which was to be a High Sabbath day no work to be done they were to be resting on that day.
Yet they broke even this command of God to rest on this day by going to see Pilate with a request put guards at the tomb where Jesus was buried to watch it for three days.
Matthew 27:62-66
62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

I will finish here on how Jesus through His atoning death and resurrection has fulfilled completely God's Spring Feasts of Passover, Feast of Unleavened bread and First fruits.
