The coming Day of Christ and the trumpet and vial judgments of Revelation

I have been planning to write about this for a little while and have only just now been able to sit down and write about this after being sick for a couple of weeks both myself and my family have been ill with a virus.  While being ill I had not the time or desire to write on the blog.

Now that I am on the mend I now feel the urge to write about the coming Day of Christ and the trumpet and vial judgements of Revelation.  Now is the time to write about these things in the Lord.

In the topic on the Day of Christ I will put it under the following headings.

Part A

The Day of Christ in relation to the Day of Atonement aka as the Day of Judgment.

I will put this part under different headings.

Part A

The Day of Christ in relation to the Day of Atonement aka as the Day of Judgment.

1A.  What Day was John worshiping God on in Revelation?
Revelation 1:1-11

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

My question is this what day of the week do you believe that John was in the Spirit on?  What day is the Lord's Day?  Is it Sunday or the Sabbath day (Saturday)?  Or is there another day known as the Lord's Day to the Jewish people that is a High Sabbath Day?

Firstly I don't believe that John being a Jew was worshiping Jesus on the Sunday.  To him the Lord's Day would be the Sabbath.  This was the day that Jesus often taught in the Synagogues on and He healed in the temple on the Sabbath as well.

Here are some examples of Jesus going to the Synagogue to teacch and theTemple to heal on the Sabbath.

Mark 1:21-22

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

Luke 4:16

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
John 5:1-16

1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

Also the Sabbath Day was to be honoured as it is part of the commandments that God gave to Moses on Mt Sinai to be a day of rest for them and their animals. 
As the Lord rested on the seventh Day, this day was blessed and hallowed made holy by the Lord Himself it was a holy day.
This day was a token of His covenant with the Israelites  at Mt Sinai.  
This was the day they were to worship Him on.

Exodus 20:8-11

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Then if this day was not just an ordinary Sabbath Day that John was in the Spirit on but it was the High Holy Day a High Sabbath Day

Then it is possible that the High Sabbath Day he was worshiping the Lord on was the Day of Atonement which falls between the Feast of Trumpets and the Feast of Tabernacles.

Then John would have been fasting and praying and doing no work as this was a solemn day to be treated as a day of rest and affliction for the whole nation of Israel.

It was to be a Day of Atonement for the nation of Israel for atonement to be made before their Adonai(Lord) God.

I will put down the verses from Leviticus to do with the Autumn Feasts that these Feasts are to be Holy unto the Lord.

Leviticus 23:1-5, 23-44

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

4 These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God.

29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

33 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord.

35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

37 These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:

38 Beside the sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the Lord.

39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.

41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the Lord seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.

42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:

43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the Lord.

In this case if John was worshiping the Lord on this day.  This leads on to heading two of Part A.

2A.  If it is the Day of Atonement what is the significance of this Day to Israel and the world?
The significance of this day for Israel is found in Leviticus 16 and in Leviticus 23.

I have given verses from Leviticus 23 in part 1A.  I will put in Leviticus 16 in this part.
Leviticus 16:1-34

 1 And the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord, and died;

2 And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.

5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.

7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.

10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:

12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:

13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:

16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.

18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.

19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:

21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:

24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.

25 And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.

26 And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.

27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord.

31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.

32 And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments:

33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregations.

34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.

The significance for Israel and the nations I believe is found in Isaiah 49, 52 and 53.  This is about the suffering servant about how he will suffer for the nations and Israel.  That His blood will cleanse both.  His blood will be sprinkled on many nations and His blood will cleanse the nation of Israel as well.
Isaiah 49:1-26

1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;

3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.

5 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.

6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

8 Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.

12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.

18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.

19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.

20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.

21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

22 Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.

23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.

24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

Isaiah 52:13-15

13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Isaiah 53:1-12

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Also in Hebrews chapters 9 and 10 we see a direct link to what the High Priest does once a year with what Jesus did when He went into the Holy of Holies in heaven.
Hebrews 9:1-28

 1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.

2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.

3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;

4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.

7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.

19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,

20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Hebrews 10:1-23

1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14 For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.

15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

I will put my observations from the passages under two sections The Day of Atonement under the Old Covenant and the Day of Atonement under the  New Covenant.

Also I will write my thoughts about the connection between the Day of Atonement and the Day of the Lord Old Testament the Day of Christ New Testament.  That they are one and the same day.

Day of Atonement under the Old Covenant.

1. This day was to be a Holy Day unto all of the nation of israel.  This is an eternal statute forever.  Please read the passages from Leviticus 16 and 23 about this day.  I have given these passages already at the beginning of this post.
2. The High Priest could not enter the Holy Holies any time he wanted to as the Lord appeared in the cloud above the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies.
3. The High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies only once a year and the time he could come before the Lord was only on the Day of Atonement.
4. He had to follow strict instructions on how to approach the Lord when entering the Holy Place.  He had to wash himself in a holy place.  He then had to dress himself in linen garments.  
5. Then he had to atone for his household first by offering a bullock and entering the Holy of Holies by taking coals off the altar and putting incense in his censor and then he could enter the Holy place within a cloud of incense.  He had to sprinkle the blood of the bullock seven times before the altar.
6. After he had done this it was time to atone for the congregation by choosing by lot the goat for the sacrifice and the goat that was to be the scapegoat.  This was done by lot at the door of the Tabernacle.
7. The goat for sacrifice was sacrificed and the High Priest atoned for the congregation the same way he atoned for his household by going into the Holy of Holies and sprinkling the blood on the Mercy Seat seven times and he had to have the cloud of incense about him when he did this or else he would die.
8. The cloud of incense represents prayer and there is reference to the altar of incense and incense being mixed with the prayers of the saints in the book of Revelation.  This links Revelation to the Day of Atonement and as the different parts of this post progresses you will see how the book of Revelation is indeed connected to the Day of Atonement in the heavenly realm and on the earth.
9. He the High Priest had to atone for the tabernacle and the altar.  
10. It must be noted that no man (this would include the other priests) was to be in the tabernacle / temple when he did this important task of atoning for the nation of Israel.  This was a task that only the High Priest was assigned /allowed to do before the Lord.
11. When he did the atoning for the tabernacle, the altar, the priests and the congregation.  He then laid his hands on the scapegoat and confessed the sins of the Israelites upon the goat.  This goat was taken out into the wilderness and let loose.
12. Once he did this he would go into the tabernacle take off his linen garments wash himself put on his priestly garments.  He was then to offer the bullock and the sin offering by fire unto the Lord the fat of them.  Anything that was not offered by fire on the altar was to be burned by fire outside the camp.
13. This day the tenth day of the seventh month was to be a day of atonement by the High Priest for the cleansing for the whole nation of Israel from their sins.
14. This was to be a Sabbath Day of rest for all of the nation of Israel including the strangers that are dwelling in their midst.
15. It was to be a day of fasting and affliction from sundown of the 9th day of the seventh month to sundown on that day the 10th day of the seventh month.  No one was to do any work.  If any one did any work they would be cut off from among the people.
16. This was a very important day for Israel and it has a future fulfilment for I believe it is connected to the second coming of Christ.  More details on this will be given in the next three parts.

Day of Atonement under the New Covenant.

• Jesus is not only our Passover for individuals and families.
• He is also the atonement for both the nation of Israel and the nations the sheep nations who will enter into His kingdom with Him.
• Both Daniel and Revelation speak of people being made white.  This covers both the people of Israel Daniel's people and the people from many tribes, tongues and nations who have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and have overcome the beast and the tribulation

Daniel 11:35

35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

Daniel 12:9-13

9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Revelation 5:8-10

8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Revelation 7:9-17

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,

12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

• Jesus as the Atonement for Israel and the nations will not be seen fully in this light until the day of His second coming.
• Jesus fulfilled the role of both the Passover lamb and the Atoning sacrifice on the cross when He offered up His pure sinless soul / life.  His poured our life blood for the sins of the world (Israel and the nations)
• Jesus' role of being the Atonement for the nations will only be fulfilled at His second coming.
• When you look at the passages in Hebrews 9 and 10 given above you can see how Jesus is acting in the role of the High Priest but this time.  It is not an earthly tabernacle that He was entering but it is the heavenly tabernacle that He is entering into to cleanse.

Hebrews 9:14-24

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.

The earthly tabernacle is only a replica of the heavenly one and Moses was instructed by God to make them exactly after the pattern of the ones that God showed him on the mountain.

Exodus 25:8-9, 40

8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

40 And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount.

Hebrews 8:1-6

1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:

5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

• Think on this too though it is not mentioned one must wonder why the heavenly tabernacle had to be cleansed.  
• It is possibly because of the sin of satan when he tried to usurp God's authority in heaven and take the heavenly throne for himself that the stain of the sin of his folly affected heaven itself. 
•  That these holy things had to be cleansed as well.

Isaiah 14:12-16

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

Ezekiel 28:13-19

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

Colossians 1:20

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

• Jesus atoned for humanity by taking the blood of His sacrifice into the heavenly Holy of Holies to place it on the Mercy Seat there.
• He didn't have to enter by a veil a woven curtain.  He entered by the veil of His flesh by which His pure blood was poured out upon the cross.  

Leviticus 16:17

17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.

• Like when the High Priest went alone into the Holy Place so too Jesus went alone into the Holy Place of heaven to come before His Holy Father.  He did this to cleanse and atone for the heavenly things as well as for individuals and for His house which is Israel and the nations.

John 20:11-17
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

• In the above passage in John 20 where Jesus tells Mary Magdalene not to touch Him because He had not ascended yet to the Father. 
• He could not be touched yet by anyone until He had done this important task of bringing His blood into heaven's Holy of Holies to appear by Himself before His Father.  This is why I believe He spoke this way to Mary when she tried to cling onto Him.
•  That is why I believe these verses could be referring to the fact that He was on the way to heaven to bring the offering of His poured out blood to His Father. 
• To bring it into Heaven's Holy of Holies to sprinkle it  on the Mercy Seat just like the High Priest brought the blood of bulls and goats into the Holy of Holies once a year. In fact the High Priest doing this once a year was a picture of what Christ would be doing when He rose from the dead and brought His precious blood into heaven's holy of holies.  
• Jesus brought His precious blood into heaven to put on heaven's throne for all eternity, where it will not fade or wear away but will stay fresh like it was on the day He died on the cross and rose again by the power of the Holy Spirit.
• So that whenever people sin they have an advocate with the Father, Jesus the Son of God who is both God and man. 
• For He is the one who ever lives to intercede for us as our High Priest and our sins are cleansed hidden under the blood that is on the Mercy Seat for all eternity.
• These beautiful truths of the role of Jesus as our emphatic High Priest is born out so wonderfully in the book of Hebrews.
• What we see in John is the truth of Jesus preparing to go alone into heaven's Holy of Holies to meet with His Father.
• To present His blood as a sacrifice this was through the veil of His flesh that was striped and pierced for us.  
• His offering was accepted for now Jesus is seated at Father's right hand in all power and authority as He states in Matthew 28 that all power and authority in heaven and on earth is given to Him.  He also has the keys of death and hell Revelation 1.
• The writer of Hebrews was able to draw upon his knowledge of the priesthood and the work of the High Priest to write the book of Hebrews and to show how Jesus fulfills the role of the High Priest in heaven. 
•  Maybe the writer of the book of Hebrews was a priest himself to write in this manner.  
• There is no name given of the author to this book but I do not believe it was Paul it is a different style altogether to how he writes.

Hebrews 9:1-15

1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.

2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.

3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;

4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.

7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

• Through His blood being put on heaven's mercy seat Jesus has made the way open for all to draw near.  His blood has opened up a new and living way this is the New Covenant.  
• This is the Covenant that God promised His people that He will take out their stony hearts and put a heart of flesh within them and will write His laws on their hearts.

Hebrews 8:1-13

9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:14-15

Hebrews 12:1-4, 22-29

4 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

• He is the priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 5:1-10

1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

Hebrews 7:1-28

3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

• Jesus also died outside the camp just like the red heifer (see Numbers 19 concerning the red heifer) was taken outside the camp and the animals that were offered up for the house of the priest and the house of Israel were burned outside the camp.  
• So too Jesus suffered outside the camp by dying on the cross.

Hebrews 13:8-16

• Due to offering up His life upon the cross when John saw the vision of Revelation with the scroll written on both sides and it was asked who was worthy to open it.  
• It appeared that no one was and he wept but one of the elders told him not to weep as the Lamb who offered up His life was worthy to open the scroll because of His sacrifice upon the cross.

Revelation 5:1-14

1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

• My next point will be on how the Day of the Lord is the same as the Day of Atonement and it is also the Day of Christ.  In other words it is one and the same thing.

3A  Is the Day of Atonement the same thing as the Day of the Lord Old Testament / the Day of Christ New Testament?
 I believe that the Day of Atonement Old Testament aka the Day of the Lord is the same day as the day of Christ New Testament.

I have made up a little formula which I will put here:
Day of Atonement = Day of the Lord = Day of Christ = Day of Judgement = Day of Redemption = Year of Jubilee for Israel and Zion and the Gentile believers in Jesus.

I will put down the scriptures to do with this and I will also include some links to articles as well that you might find interesting to read.

The scriptures on the Day of Atonement will be other references found within the Old and New Testament about this day.  The scriptures in the New Testament will be showing that Christ is our Atonement.

The Day of the Lord is often seen as a coming day of God's judgment upon both Israel, Jerusalem and the nations.  It is often referred to a day of wrath and gloom.  Yet it is also seen as a day of redemption when God will be jealous for Zion and will fight for His people.

Isaiah 31:4-9

 4 For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

5 As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

Zephaniah 1:1-18

9 In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.

12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The Lord will not do good, neither will he do evil.

13 Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

Zephaniah 3:8
8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

Where the scriptures describe God fighting for Zion and it describes Him fighting like He has a physical body.  Well He does that is Jesus does have a physical resurrected glorified flesh and bone body.

These following passages are describing when Jesus comes physically back to fight for Zion.  

Though when the Old Testament prophets wrote these prophecies they didn't know or understand that God through HIs Son will be born among His people that He will be born as a human baby, grow up to die on a cross then He will rise again from the dead and ascend to Father to sit at His right hand.  There He is in heaven waiting until the time His people call for Him to come and save them.

This will be when the nations surround and invade Jerusalem right at the very end of the age. 

Once His people call for Him to save them even be willing to call for His Son Jesus to save them from their enemies.  He will come forth from heaven to fight for His people.
Joel 3:9-17

9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:

10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.

11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord.

12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.

13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

Zechariah 14:1-9, 12-15

The day of Christ some people try to make it out to be a different day to the day of the Lord when they are in fact one and the same day. These people who do this support the Pre Trib rapture theory. They try to imply that the day of Christ is to do with the secret hidden rapture of the church.

They don't want people to associate this day of Christ's coming with judgement or God's vengeance.  Whereas this is exactly what this day will be upon the enemies of Christ.

Those who belong to Christ it will be their day of salvation / redemption coming in full at the appearing of Christ to gather His people those who are alive and to resurrect the righteous who sleep in  Him.

This day will be the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur as it is properly known by the Jewish people.   This will bring in full the completeness of God's redemption which will be realized at the return to this earth by God's Son Jesus to bring salvation in and to bring the age of the Gentiles to a close while ushering in the Kingdom of Heaven at the same time.

This is a solemn day indeed a day of deep darkness that will be broken by the Glory of His appearing in the clouds with His angels.

This day will occur in the Middle of the Autumn Feasts.  Christ came the first time the Spring Feasts beginning with Passover and He will return during the Autumn Feasts beginning with the Feast of Trumpets and ending with the Feast of Tabernacles.  

So it is only logical that He will return on the actual Day of the Lord the Day of Atonement which is a High Holy Sabbath Day or double Sabbath day.

This next link has some interesting points.  I don't agree with all of what the author says but I do agree with some of his statements.

I don't agree with the assumption that the trumpet being sounded on Yom Kippur(Day of Atonement) is the seventh trumpet. For the seventh trumpet and this trumpet that will be sounded on the day of Yom Kippur are two different trumpets.

In fact I will go so far as to say this trumpet is the eighth trumpet the number 8 according to the significance of bible numbers means resurrection.  So it is fitting to sound the eighth trumpet on the day the Lord will return on which will be the Day of Atonement.

I will deal more in depth about this eighth trumpet in Part D Jesus the Deliverer.

Getting back to the article below, nor do I agree with the author's version of the rapture which is Pre Wrath rapture. 

When it states clearly in Matthew 24 that Jesus will appear and the whole world will see Him and He will send His angels out to gather His elect. 

This occurs after the time of the Great Tribulation.  In Luke 21 when the world's armies surround Jerusalem Jesus tells people to look up for their redemption draws near.  He is referring to Himself ie His appearing, being the people's redemption at that time.

This now leads me to my fourth and final point for this part.  The relevance of the Day of Atonement in the book of Revelation.

4A  Is the book of Revelation about the Day of Atonement from heaven's perspective? If so then this would explain why the focus is on the different types of judgments that will be taking place on the earth.

Looking at the evidence given from the scriptures above under the different points.  I strongly believe that the book of Revelation is about the Day of Atonement from heaven's perspective leading up to the return of Jesus on a future Day of Atonement to Jerusalem or the Mt of Olives to be precise.

I believe that John was worshiping the Lord in the Spirit on this very important day of the Jewish calendar.

That as Acts 27:9 mentions the fast.
Acts 27:9
9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

This fast would indeed refer to the Day of Atonement for this day was to be a solemn fast unto the Lord  by the nation / people of Israel where ever they are in the world. It was also for the afflicting of their souls as the people were instructed to do this in Leviticus 16 and Leviticus 23:26-32.

So like Paul while on his journeys would have observed the fast.  John too on the isle of Patmos would have been observing this day as a fast and he would have spent time in prayer before the Lord.

Also as one of the articles I have included on the Day of Atonement above mentions that just like the High Priest could only enter into the Holy of Holies once a year to atone for his house first then for the nation of Israel and the tabernacle then during the temple eras the temple would have been atoned for.  

The article mentions that if John was in the spirit on the Lord's Day and that Day was the Day of Atonement then that is the reason why he is called into Heaven't Holy of Holies the throne room of God Himself.

That is why God is showing to him John the Revelation of Jesus Christ pertaining to the end of days leading up to and including His return for His people and to wage war on His enemies.

Also The Day of Atonement is also known as Yom Kippur by the Jewish people which also means meeting with God face to face.  That is it is the only day in which the High Priest can enter into the presence of God where He sat enthroned above the wings of the Cherubim above the Ark of the Covenant.  To meet with God face to face on behalf of his house and the nation of Israel.

Albeit the High Priest could not enter into the presence of God without the covering of the cloud of incense or without blood of the bull and the goat to sprinkle upon the Ark of the covenant to atone for his household the bull's blood and the people of Israel the goat's blood.

So John was allowed to come into the presence of God into Heaven's Holy of Holies to the throne room itself and to meet with God face to face on this High Holy Day.

In this series of visions God was showing him what was to take place on the earth in the form of different types of judgments. Each judgment will become more severe until God finally pours out the full intensity of the cup of His wrath upon Babylon the world's wicked system that is in open rebellion against Him through satan, the false christ and the false prophet.

John is able to enter into Heaven's Holy of Holies because he has been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb and his name is in the Lamb's book of life.  As the last remaining apostle who was still alive at that time, Jesus wanted John to convey a message from Him firstly to the Seven churches in the area now known as Turkey and Syria.

Then Jesus wanted John to write down the visions of the book of Revelation so that we who will be living at the time of these judgments leading to His return will know what will be happening on the earth and not to be alarmed by these things.

That we are to be reminded that what will be taking place will be originating from heaven first and outworking onto the earth.

To understand that the judgments that are taking place are to do with the coming kingdom of God.

That these things are connected to the Day of the Lord, aka the Day of Atonement aka the Day of Christ.  That this day is one and the same and this day is very much linked to Christ Himself through what He did as our atonement for sin upon the tree. 

That He is also the nation of Israel's atonement along with the nations and that this day represents judgment and redemption.   

That this day also has a lot to do with the second coming of Christ and God's vengeance on those who refused to accept His offer of peace and forgiveness from sins through Christ and who refuse to believe in Him through the gospel.  

That this day is the day of God's wrath poured out on the earth and those who dwell in it who are outside of Christ.

God has indeed been slow to anger and long suffering, He has given ample time for the gospel to go forth throughout the nations of the earth.

However His patience with sinful man is wearing thin, the return of His beloved Son is drawing nearer by the day.  The fact that Israel is now a nation and most of her people have returned to live in her and Jerusalem is inhabited again and in Jewish hands mostly except the Temple Mount but that will change one day when the temple is rebuilt.

That Israel and Jerusalem themselves as well as the people of Israel living back in their land are signs of the impending end of the age and soon return of the true King of Glory Christ Himself.

We must stop looking at the book of Revelation through Gentile eyes and start looking at it from the Hebrew perspective and look at it through the lens of the Day of Atonement and look at the scriptures in the Old Testament to do with the Day of the Lord and the New Testament the Day of Christ..

Looking at the different scriptures on the Day of the Lord, Day of Christ, Day of Atonement, you will see how everything is linked that they all tie together like a threefold cord that cannot be broke and they speak the same message but in different ways.

It is still the same message of God restoring Zion, dealing with the nations and remarrying Himself to Jerusalem and dwelling among His people once more and He makes it clear that He will remember their sins no more. That He will cleanse them and He makes it clear to all of the nations that He is the people of Israel's God and they are His people.

Also He will have people for Himself from the nations, tribes and tongues of the world too for they too appear in the book of Revelation having been won for the Lord through the blood of the Lamb and those who are at the time of the Great Tribulation they will come through because of their stand / faith in Jesus.
